UML Secretariat Meeting to Be Held on Saturday, Election Review Expected to Dominate Agenda

Friday, May 15 2026

Kathmandu- The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) has called a meeting of its Secretariat. The meeting will be held on Saturday at the call of party chairperson KP Sharma Oli. This will be the first Secretariat meeting of the party since the House of Representatives elections held in Falgun.

The meeting has been convened amid growing discussion within the party about increasing pressure on the leadership following results that fell short of expectations in the elections. Party members have also expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of an official review of the electoral defeat.

Earlier, Vice-chair Bishnu Prasad Paudel and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel had met Chairperson Oli at his residence in Gundu on Baisakh 25. The Secretariat meeting was called shortly after that meeting.

Party leaders have also raised concerns over the irregularity of official party programs and internal meetings in recent months.

The meeting is expected to focus on organizational review, assessment of the election results, and the party’s future strategy. It may also provide direction on leadership roles and overall organizational strengthening, according to party leaders.
