Kathmandu- Senior beautician Sushma Mahara has announced her candidacy for the position of Executive Committee Member (from the district category) in the upcoming election of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Mahara, who has long been active in the beauty and service sector, has expanded unisex beauty salons across the country under the “Facial House” brand, directly employing more than 300 women.
The network developed under her leadership is regarded as a significant contribution to promoting women’s entrepreneurship. Alongside her beauty business, she has also diversified her investments into various industries, establishing herself as a multi-dimensional entrepreneur.
Mahara has successfully served as Treasurer of the Nepal Chamber of Industry and Commerce Kathmandu and is currently active in the important role of Secretary. In addition, she has held leadership positions in various professional and social organizations, reflecting her strong experience and firm grasp of institutional operations and policy processes.
Announcing her candidacy, Mahara has put forward the slogan “Empowered Women’s Leadership and Entrepreneurship” as her core agenda. She has emphasized expanding women’s participation, strengthening small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and formalizing the service sector as her key priorities.
At a time when women’s leadership presence in the industrial and commercial sector remains limited, her candidacy is being seen as a positive intervention. Her focus on economic self-reliance, skill-based employment, and women’s empowerment is expected to introduce a new discourse in the upcoming election.
The FNCCI’s 60th Annual General Meeting, scheduled for the 29th and 30th, will elect new leadership.
For the top leadership, FNCCI’s Commodity Vice President Hemraj Dhakal and current Senior Vice President and “Waiting President” Anjan Shrestha have formed separate panels to stake their claims.
From the Dhakal panel, Hemraj Dhakal is contesting for Senior Vice President, Naresh Lal Shrestha for Commodity Vice President, Jyotsna Shrestha for Associate Vice President, Umesh Dalmia and Kalpana Gaire for District/Municipal Vice Presidents, and Kamala Shrestha for Women Vice President. From the same panel, Sushma Mahara has filed her candidacy for the Central Executive Member position.
