Kathmandu - Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi has criticized the political developments surrounding the Deputy Speaker election, saying the party was led to field a candidate after receiving assurances that were later not followed.
Speaking while presenting RPP’s candidate Saraswati Lama for the post of Deputy Speaker in the House of Representatives on Friday, Shahi said the decision to contest the election was influenced by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
He remarked that cooperation between parties could have been possible, but claimed that circumstances forced RPP into the race.
“Politics is understood in a way where assurance and betrayal are considered normal, just as in love and war everything is fair,” Shahi said, implying disappointment over the political process.
He further suggested that if RSP had agreed to support RPP’s position regarding candidate selection, particularly in backing Shrub Kumari Thakur from the Shram Sanskriti Party, RPP would not have entered the contest.
Shahi also cautioned that parliamentary strength is not permanent, saying numbers in politics can change over time.
