Trump Signals Review of Iran’s Peace Proposal, Hints at Low Chances of Acceptance

Sunday, May 3 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that he will review a new peace proposal sent by Iran, while also indicating that the chances of accepting it are slim.

Speaking to reporters, President Trump stated that Iran’s past activities have had serious consequences for the world and humanity, expressing little optimism about the current peace initiative.

He also did not rule out the possibility of future military action against Iran. “If they behave badly or create any problems, such steps could be taken, but right now we are assessing the situation,” Trump said.

Meanwhile, Iran’s 14-point peace proposal, delivered through mediators, reportedly includes provisions to end hostilities on all fronts and establish a new framework for managing the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

A senior Iranian military official has warned that the likelihood of renewed conflict between the United States and Iran remains high, also accusing Washington of failing to fully honor previous agreements.

Iran’s deputy foreign minister, meanwhile, said that the decision between peace or confrontation now lies with the United States, adding that Tehran is prepared for both scenarios.

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have already disrupted oil supplies, leading to rising global prices. The Iranian economy has also been increasingly affected by the conflict, with declining oil exports and high inflation reported.
