Khotang Launches Red Panda and Thar Festival with New Trekking Route

Kathmandu- Red panda (Ailurus fulgens), also known as the lesser panda, is a small mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. The first-ever Red Panda and Thar Festival kicked off on New Year’s Day 2082 BS in Hurlung, Khotang, launching the ‘Mundum Trail Visit Year.’ Organized by Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, the two-day event promotes wildlife conservation, featuring cultural shows, local cuisine, and traditional products. Chancellor Bhupal Rai inaugurated the festival, which also marked the opening of the new ‘Red Panda-Thar Route’ trekking trail to boost eco-tourism in the region.
