At least eight people have died in a massive fire at the Argavan Commercial Complex shopping center in Andisheh city, located about 30 kilometers west of Iran’s capital Tehran.
According to Iran’s IRIB television, 36 others were injured in the incident. The building reportedly housed more than 250 commercial units.
The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), quoting Andisheh fire department chief Ali Paydaran, reported that the fire broke out at around 4:40 PM local time.
Paydaran said the fire spread rapidly due to the use of composite materials on the building’s exterior.
ISNA, citing the Iranian Red Crescent Society, also reported that rescue and search operations are underway at the site with trained search-and-rescue dogs deployed to assist the operation.
