Kathmandu- Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary leader Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi has demanded the mandatory presence of Prime Minister Balen Shah during the parliamentary debate on the government’s policy and program.
Speaking at Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Shahi recalled that in the past, his party had protested, boycotted sessions, and worn black armbands when the Prime Minister failed to attend Parliament.
He stressed that the Prime Minister must be present during discussions on such an important document, arguing that executive accountability should be ensured within Parliament itself. “If it is a people’s government, accountability should be sought in Parliament, not at Ratnapark,” he said.
Shahi also claimed that in any democratic system around the world, it is not customary for the Prime Minister to remain absent during discussions on the policy and program.
Meanwhile, referring to Prime Minister Shah reportedly staying in Singha Durbar wearing black glasses, Shahi urged Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal to issue a ruling ensuring the Prime Minister’s presence in Parliament. He added that it is unacceptable for the Prime Minister to avoid hearing the policy and program he himself presented.
