Kathmandu- During the zero hour of the House of Representatives meeting, lawmakers urged the government to ensure the immediate availability of chemical fertilizers for farmers. They said the ongoing shortage, at the onset of the farming season, has forced farmers to borrow money at high interest rates from moneylenders to purchase fertilizers. They stressed the need for a more organized, responsible, and professional agricultural system.
MP Vikram Khanal said that despite the farming season beginning, fertilizers remain scarce, forcing farmers into financial distress. He called on the government to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilizers. MP Sunil K.C. also emphasized the need for timely and adequate fertilizer distribution.
MP Shambhu Prasad Dhakal highlighted the need for proper market management for locally produced bananas and stressed promoting the consumption of domestic agricultural products.
On infrastructure, MP Laxmi Prasad Pokharel called for making the Karnali Highway stretch from Bangesimal in Surkhet to Khallanga in Jumla safer, citing rising road accidents and human casualties.
MP Lima Adhikari Acharya stressed the need for employment generation through tourism promotion as rural areas continue to face depopulation. MP Lekhjang Thapa expressed concern over the underutilization of the Gautam Buddha International Airport despite significant investment.
On social issues, MP Bishnumaya B.K. drew attention to the death of a Dalit youth in Sindhuli allegedly linked to an inter-caste marriage, urging parliamentary attention. MP Shivashankar Yadav noted problems in Tarai-Madhes districts due to the closure of small customs offices.
MP Shraddha Kunwar Kshetri appreciated the government’s prioritization of digital platforms. MP Shreedhar Pokharel urged measures to prevent wildlife attacks in Bardiya that have led to loss of human lives.
MP Sandeep Rana suggested timely preparedness for road infrastructure challenges during the monsoon season in Palpa. MP Seema Mia called for ensuring minimum wages and safety measures for nurses.
MP Samiksha Baskota emphasized the protection of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu Valley. MP Saraswati Lama complained that the Dhading–Somtang road project has remained incomplete for a long time.
MP Sarita Mahato urged the government to provide accessible testing and treatment facilities for children with autism within the country. MP Sajita Khatun Siddiqui highlighted the plight of women, children, and the elderly affected by the demolition of squatters’ settlements.
MP Sitaram Sah urged solutions to the drinking water crisis in Tarai-Madhes. MP Srijana Shrestha called for creating an investment-friendly environment, warning that the private sector is becoming discouraged.
MP Sita Thapaliya urged the government to expedite the Education Bill. MP Sunita Kumari Chaudhary demanded the inclusion of the Nishad community in the indigenous nationalities list. MP Suresh Kumar Chaudhary highlighted the lack of infrastructure development in Banke district.
MP Sushant Baidhik emphasized good governance and disaster risk reduction while recalling past movements for democracy and prosperity. MP Sushil Kumar Kanu raised concerns over weak business activity in Birgunj.
MP Sushil Khadka called for immediate action to stop excessive exploitation of the Kaligandaki River. MP Sushila Dhakal Acharya said the demolition of squatters’ settlements has shattered many families’ dreams.
MP Suhang Nembang noted that tea exports have nearly come to a halt despite the crop’s long historical significance, urging government intervention. MP Srishti Bhattarai alleged that individuals involved in past movements are still being harassed and detained unfairly.
MP Smriti Century expressed concern over the long-abandoned magnesium industry. Other lawmakers also drew the government’s attention to various local and national issues, urging timely resolution.
