Kathmandu- The Shram Sanskriti Party led by Harka Sampang has boycotted a meeting of the House of Representatives, protesting the Prime Minister’s working style and his absence from parliamentary sessions.

Speaking to journalists, party chair Harka Sampang said it is inappropriate for the Prime Minister to send representatives instead of personally attending and responding to important matters such as the policy and programme. He also remarked that the Prime Minister’s direct presence and active engagement in governance are not being seen.

Sampang accused the ruling side of attempting to run parliamentary proceedings in a unilateral manner and said there were efforts to suppress opposition voices. He further claimed that insufficient time has been given for discussion on important documents such as the policy and programme and the budget, which were provided only for brief study periods.

Announcing the boycott, he said, “Instead of the Prime Minister himself attending, others are being sent. We have boycotted the session in protest because it feels as if there is no Prime Minister in the country. Providing volumes of documents and asking us to study them overnight is not appropriate.”

He added that his party has walked out of the session and claimed that other parties are also expressing dissatisfaction. Sampang warned that attempts to ignore opposition voices indicate an undemocratic approach, adding that the opposition cannot be suppressed.

He further stated that the public will ultimately judge the performance of elected representatives and the government’s working style.
