Kathmandu- The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued an interim order preventing the implementation of a decision made by former Attorney General Savita Bhandari to withdraw a tax-related case involving WorldLink Communications.
A joint bench of Justices Vinosh Sharma and Shrikant Paudel issued the order on Thursday, directing that the decision not be implemented until further notice.
The case concerns approximately NPR 3 billion in alleged revenue loss due to tax evasion claims against WorldLink Communications, which had been pursued by the Inland Revenue Department and the Large Taxpayer Office.
Petitioner Bhesraj Luintel has alleged in his writ petition that there was collusion between the then Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and Attorney General, claiming deliberate actions that resulted in significant tax evasion and loss to the state.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered the Office of the Attorney General to present documents related to the investigation and prosecution decisions of the Inland Revenue Department for further hearing on the interim order.
