Kathmandu, Nepal — The Kathmandu Kalinga Literary Festival (KKLF) has announced the recipients of the prestigious Kathmandu Kalinga Literary Award 2026. This year's honor will be conferred upon renowned Indian spiritual philosopher, author, and social thinker Acharya Prashant, and distinguished Nepali literary critic and scholar Prof. Dr. Basudev Tripathi.
The announcement was made by Rashmi Ranjan Parida, Founder and Director of the Kalinga Literary Festival. The award carries a trophy, citation, and traditional shawl and will be presented during the inaugural ceremony of the 4th Kathmandu Kalinga Literary Festival, scheduled for June 6–7, 2026, in Kathmandu.
Acharya Prashant: A Contemporary Voice of Spiritual Wisdom
Acharya Prashant is widely recognized as one of India's most influential contemporary spiritual teachers, philosophers, authors, and public intellectuals. Known for his insightful interpretations of the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Vedanta, and world philosophies, he has inspired millions through his teachings that connect ancient wisdom with modern-day challenges.
An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, Acharya Prashant also qualified for India's prestigious Civil Services Examination. The festival will also confer the Yashaswi Sahitya Samman upon noted writers Dr. Neena Verma and Jyotiska Ganguly, while the Yashaswi Samman will be presented to Biswajeet Dashgupta in recognition of his contributions.
Celebrating South Asian Literary Excellence
Organized in collaboration with Nepal's Yashaswi Pragya Pratishthan, the Kathmandu edition of the Kalinga Literary Festival has become an important platform for literary and cultural exchange in South Asia since its inception in Nepal in 2022.
More than 300 writers, poets, scholars, intellectuals, and cultural figures from Nepal, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and beyond are expected to participate in this year's festival.
The central theme of KKLF 2026 is "Beyond Borders: South Asian Literature in a Changing World." The festival aims to explore the evolving role of literature in fostering dialogue, understanding, and cultural cooperation across nations.
According to KLF Founder and Director Rashmi Ranjan Parida, the festival will celebrate literature, music, dance, poetry, and other art forms while strengthening the historic cultural bonds among Nepal, India, and the wider South Asian region.
The two-day event will feature panel discussions, keynote addresses, poetry readings, book launches, author interactions, writing and translation workshops, literary awards, and cross-border collaborations, bringing together some of the most influential voices in contemporary South Asian literature.
