Kathmandu: The Nepali feature film "Jand", directed by Raju Shah, has been released in cinemas across the country from today.

According to the production team, the film delivers a powerful social message against deeply rooted social evils and harmful traditions.

Jand centers on the devastating impact of alcohol addiction, portraying the family tensions, conflicts, and broader social consequences caused by excessive drinking.

The film’s trailer, released earlier, realistically depicts how an alcoholic’s behavior affects family life and highlights the perspectives of a wife, daughter, and society toward such individuals. Beyond exploring the breakdown of family relationships due to alcoholism, the film also challenges the long-standing patriarchal belief in Nepali society that "only a son can carry on the family lineage."

The production team says the story focuses on the discrimination faced by daughters, the obsession with having sons, and the resulting social and family problems, while raising a strong voice against such outdated attitudes.

Produced by Rajendra Bhatta, the film features performances by Sanbi Khatiwada, Padam Gurung, Kamala Dahal, Ramesh Upreti, Manju Shrestha, Subash Gajurel, Ramesh Adhikari, Laxmi Timilsina, and Smarika Khanal, among others.

Produced under the banner of Sukuldhoka Media Pvt. Ltd., the film’s story, screenplay, and dialogues were jointly written by Sunil Prasad Shrestha, Raju Shah, and Rajendra Bhatt. The producers are Sunil Prasad Shrestha and Rajendra Shah.

The film's chief assistant directors are Shambhu Gautam and Kishor Dangol, while Narendra Kumar KC serves as the assistant director. Dipen Basnet handled the cinematography and editing, with action direction by Yogendra Shrestha.

Sunil Prasad Shrestha served as the production controller. The film features lyrics by Shripurush Dhakal, with music and vocals by Roshan Baluwa.
