Wednesday, July 9 2025

Kathmandu - The government is in the final stages of finalizing the minimum wage for workers as per the Labor Act, 2074 BS. The Minimum Wage Determination Committee under the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security is preparing to set a new wage that will be effective from 1st July.

Discussions are ongoing between the workers and employers in the committee. The workers have proposed a monthly wage of Rs 30,443, while the employers are seeking a middle ground solution, saying that this is impossible.

The current wage of Rs 17,300 will be increased by 15.3% to Rs 19,946. The proposal is for a dearness allowance increase of Rs 3,000 to Rs 20,300.

This time, a system based on scientific criteria is being implemented, which is based on food/non-food basket, calorie requirement, market price, and family income.

If there is no agreement in the committee, the government will take a decision as per the Labor Act. The decision is planned to be published in the Gazette by mid-Asad and implemented from 17st July.
